Arcane Roots & Evanescence @ Hammersmith Apollo in London, England

Review & Photography by: Callum Ludlow

Evanescence finally came back to the UK for a pair of sold out back to back shows nestled between a string of festival dates across europe. Performing at the iconic Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith for their first show in London since 2012.  I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to head out and capture the action.

With the venue coming into sight, I could feel the excitement building from the eager fans gathering outside. There were people of all ages, from those who remember them breaking out to more recent fans, each as wired as each other to see the band. I got chatting to a few fans whilst waiting to shoot and it became clear that a lot of the audience had been waiting years for the band to reform and head back to the UK.

First up was supporting act ‘Arcane Roots’ who are a band I’ve seen on several occasions, and personally one that I always look forward to catching, like always they didn’t disappoint. They brought out their awesome heavy yet melodic sound, they were the perfect warm up as the crowd was off of their feet and moshing to their music.

When Evanescence finally took the stage they played some of their newer tracks, which had the crowd on their feet, but it was when they played fan favourites such as ‘Bring Me to Life’ ‘Going Under’ and ‘My Immortal’, that the crowd really took their level of excitement up a notch. Throughout the show there was crowd surfing and people dancing in the pits.  Some fans even let their emotions run wild when Amy took to the piano to play some of the bands slower numbers.  But it wasn’t just the slow songs that Amy excelled at, She bristled with energy throughout, keeping the crowd interested throughout their set.
