Please state the name of the individual(s) answering the interview questions.
Why did you form War on Women?
Brooks and I wanted to start a heavier band that talked about feminist issues.
What is your goal with this campaign?
What campaign? We are a punk band.
How is the workshop “Creating Safer Spaces: You Have the Power to Shape Your Scene” being used to spread War on Women’s message?
It’s not our message, it’s just general feminism. The workshop relates to feminism in the sense that it advocates for equal and fair treatment of people, without harassment or violence.
This is War on Women’s first time traveling with Vans Warped Tour. Can you share with us some of your experiences thus far?
It’s hard work, but it’s a lot of fun with a lot of nice people. There’s nothing like it. We don’t agree with everything that every band says or stands for, but we’re happy to present an alternative way of thinking.
With the issues that you touch on, there is a lot of negative feedback from people who either don’t understand what you are campaigning for or simply don’t want to change their views. How do you work to educate them in a positive way?
We just make good music and put on a good show and do interviews like this, hoping it reaches someone.
