Self Help Festival @ Michigan Lottery Amphitheater in Sterling Heights, MI

Review & Photography by: Emily Veillette

Featuring: Of Mice & Men, Falling in Reverse, Underoath, Pierce The Veil, A Day to Remember, and Rise Against

Self Help Festival, created by A Day to Remember, expanded to four dates this year with one occurring in Michigan. The Festival goers were blessed with 80 degree weather on October the 7th. A Day to Remember invited 11 other bands to join them in a day of rock, some of which included: The Plot in You, Moose Blood, Wage War, Issues, Pierce the Veil, and Rise Against.

The bands at this festival put on an entertaining show for crowd members and photographers. Fans showed their connection to the music through their singing, head banging, cheering, and crowd surfing. Musicians such as Ronnie Radke of Falling in Reverse kept the crowd entertained with their flipping and dancing. As a photographer I was personally excited to see Pierce the Veil who I enjoyed covering at a previous festival. Any musician who jumps, kicks, and flips is an attention grabber for photographers and fans alike.

A Day to Remember and Rise Against took the longest sets for the night, with Rise Against closing off the show. A Day to Remember colored the sky with rainbow confetti and threw a few blow-up aliens into the crowd for the fans enjoyment. The aliens bounced around and seemed to be enjoying themselves too. Next, Rise Against took the stage and rocked out until they finished their set list. Self Help Festival is definitely one to attend if you are looking for a day of nonstop energy, fun, and of course great music.
