Amistat: Interview

We spoke with Josef Prasil from Amistat about his band’s music, latest video, and his upcoming tour. Check out our interview below, and you can catch them live in Australia next month!

Hey guys! How are you doing today?

Very well thank you. It’s very hot here in Australia today and we are hiding inside:)

You released your album, Parley earlier this year. How has the reaction been so far?

As Parley was our debut album, people were very excited about it and the response and support was amazing. We put a lot of hard work in to make it sound exactly how we wanted it to sound.  We had some great musicians working with us and we are very proud of it. It sounds quite different to our previous releases and it’s definitely not a commercial sounding album.

Where do you get your inspirations from your songs?

There are quite a few inspiring musicians like Damien Rice, Ben Howard and Mark Mumford who are the reason why we write and play the kind of music that we do. We have traveled all our lives and lived in many different countries, so our inspiration comes from people that we’ve met, experiences we have had and the challenges that we had to overcome so far in our lives.

Can you tell us more about your single, The Coward?

Jan wrote ‘The Coward’ almost one year ago when he was going through a difficult time in his personal life. The songs is about being able to express what and who you truly are despite of what other people think of you. Knowing who you are, what you are capable of doing and trusting in yourself. Facing challenges, hardships and overcoming FEAR.

What was your favorite part of filming the music video for it?

Our favourite part of filming the music video was to make it all work in just one shot. From start till end it’s all about capturing the right moment! Being able to create whatever it is that you want is a very special feeling.

When you write songs, does one of you focus on the lyrics and the other work on the melody or is it a collaboration of both?

Jan writes most of the melodies as he’s been playing and writing music for a very long time now. When it comes to the lyrics, usually one of us starts writing the words and we always finish them together! It seems like being twins makes writing easier for us as we are on the same page.

You just announced some Australian tour dates. How excited are you for it?

We are very excited to be heading up the east coast to tour our new single. This time we’ll be travelling as a 4 piece band which is going to really great! Julian Swinnerton will be playing the Cello and Ryan Oliver is playing the piano and percussion. We are able to create a bigger and fuller sound which makes performing live even more enjoyable. Being able to share the stage with close friends is something very special and rare!

Who is dream collaboration?

We would love to sit down and collaborate with Damien Rice and Mark Mumford one day. We do not just admire these two artists for their incredible music but also for who they are and what they are standing for.

What can we expect from you guys in 2018?

We’ll be recording a new EP start of 2018 and are going to tour Australia and Europe again. Hopefully this time we’ll be able to visit some countries that we haven’t seen this far!!
