December 28th was the night for Clutch to play at Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey. The venue was sold out and the crowd braved the cold to see a night filled with amazing music. Mike Westcott Band opened the show with a 70’s rock sound and vibe. Their set was welcomed by the crowd and set the tone for the night. Next up: The Obsessed. They came out on stage with a heavier sound, great vocals and riffs. After their set, the crowd began to fill in the venue. As the lights dimmed, Devin Townsend Project began to fill the stage and the crowd’s cheering became louder and more energized. Devin started by engaging the crowd, and continued to do so throughout their set. This band has a unique sound, mixing heavier rock/metal with some syths and keys. In between songs, there was banter as well as jokes made to keep the crowd engaged, energy up and they crowd responded with laughter and cheers.
Once Devin Townsend Project finished their set, the venue was packed from the stage to the back bar, waiting for the main event: Clutch. Finally, the lights went out and Clutch took the stage. Immediately the crowd cheered and sang along to the songs enjoying every minute. Clutch never fails to put on an amazing show, and tonight was no different. Their fast-paced rock music keeps the energy level high all night. If you have the chance to see them live, do not pass up the opportunity!
