FLETCHER, and X Ambassadors @ The Fillmore in San Francisco, CA
Review & Photography by: Samantha Toy
Have you ever been to a show where you’ve heard of this artist for a long time, but never had the chance to see them live because of your conflicting schedule? Well, this happened to be my experience with New Jersey’s FLETCHER.
The vocalist known for “War Paint” stopped by the city on a three date run with X Ambassadors as she brought her incredible voice to a new crowd. I’ve been a fan of her for a few months now, and I was so happy to finally see her in person which I might add that meeting her was a delight as well. As this was FLETCHER’s second time in San Francisco, she attracted more enthusiastic fans to the pit over the course of her 10 song setlist. Personally, my favorite moment was her covering Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors,” and everyone singing along in unison.
Before X Ambassadors walked out onstage a little past 9 pm, I took a moment to stand next to one of my favorite friends/photographer, Alessio, and think to myself about how thankful I am to see this talented band for the third time in the past two years, but in my home region. The first time I saw these guys was in Omaha, Nebraska as they opened up for the College World Series a few years ago, and in Seattle, WA at Bumbershoot Festival just a few months ago. It’s crazy on how I’ve followed this band in three different cities.
After daydreaming for a few minutes, the lights went dark, and the guys walked out with fans screaming with excitement. Following the usual start off with Sam walking his brother Casey to the keyboard, Sam took a moment to stand at the edge of the stage encouraging everyone to scream today as they begin their first song, “Ahead of Myself” which has over 14 million streams on Spotify. Once I heard those famous guitar notes, I glistened with happiness as they began their set with my favorite track.
Throughout the rest of the night, XA performed some new songs, including “Don’t Stay”, “Happy Home”, and “Hold You Down” that is off the band’s upcoming record which is set to release later on this year. Aside from new music, the packed house screamed back the lyrics and it resulted the band smiling for the rest of the night. After the band performed their two songs of encore, all the fans left the pit with happiness and even tears for some fans.
Make sure to follow the rockers X Ambassadors on social media, and look out for the band’s upcoming record. They’ll also be heading out on a world tour later on this year!
