Architects, Counterparts and Stick To Your Guns @ Wonder Ballroom in Portland, OR

Counterparts was the first band to kick off the show. For the opening act they sure got the crowd moshing, moving and full of fist pumping energy. Opening bands usually face a difficulty of accomplishing this but not for Counterparts. Their set did end a half hour early however, which caused the show to end earlier due to long hiatuses between bands.
The second band to enter the stage and the main reason I was there, Stick to Your Guns. I don’t know if it was just me but I felt very captivated by front man Jesse Barnett. Every song in their set had some meaning or back story to it. For example “The Bond”was dedicated to a family member lost under tragic circumstances and a more recent track “The Suspend” was dedicated to the strong women in Barnett’s life. At one point in the night some of the crowd were stage diving and dancing around which was exactly what I’d expect from a hardcore show. One stand out track in this set was “Married to the Noise” from their new album True View that showed the amount of energy shown by each member of the band. Overall a solid line up for a hardcore show including the headliners who came after, Architects. I’m banking on the fact that people were very sore and sorry the next morning.
