BFD Festival @ Concord Pavilion in Concord, CA

For over 20 years, San Francisco’s Bay Area residents can recall the best holiday shows, and festivals from the radio station, Live 105. This specific radio station has impacted the music industry in Northern California by playing legendary artists such as Green Day, Nirvana, Weezer all the way to international bands such as Foals, Nothing But Thieves, and Vance Joy. Live 105 is a huge reason why artists have gained popularity in the area, and why bands book a tour date either in Oakland, Berkeley, San Jose or San Francisco. With a shock to some, the station actually changed their name to Alt 105.3 earlier this year, but they are still the same old station bringing the best tunes while you’re driving.
This year, Alt 105.3 hosted BFD Festival again, but in Concord, California. “The location might be far for some Bay Area fans since they have always played in Mountain View, but all that matters is that we are all here together enjoying the music,” stated a fan as I caught them before heading into the Pavilion.
On Mother’s Day this year, there were surprisingly a lot of kids who brought their moms along on this special day than I imagined. With some bands like AJR, Nothing But Thieves, and Cemetery Sun for example, they dedicated songs to mothers in the crowd, or just a big thank you for coming out and spending time with them. With Alt 105.3 always playing music on the radio whether they are local, national, or international artists, they have always brought fans together to discover some new artists which I really admire. This year, they brought out Blink 182, Judah and The Lion, AJR, Nothing But Thieves, James Bay, Billie Eilish, The War on Drugs, Dirty Heads, Bishop Briggs, Mt. Eddy, and Cemetery Sun this year for some fun.
The day began with Mt. Eddy (Oakland, California), Cemetery Sun (Sacramento, CA), Nothing But Thieves (Southend-on-Sea, UK), Billie Eilish (Los Angeles, CA), AJR (Manhattan, NY), Bishop Briggs (Los Angeles,CA), Judah And The Lion (Nashville, TN), James Bay (Hertfordshire, UK), AWOLNATION (Los Angeles, CA), The War On Drugs (Philadelphia, PA), Dirty Heads (Huntington Beach, CA) and Blink 182 (Poway, CA) in order. For me, I have seen some of these artists multiple times already, so it was great to see some familiar faces in the vicinity.
With a long day filled with music blaring, fans screaming, people laughing, and some shivering from the windy weather, it was a successful night. If you live in the Bay Area, make sure to come out to BFD next year!
