This July, Forecastle Festival will take place at Louisville’s beautiful Waterfront Park. Their tagline “Music-Art-Activism” pretty much sums it up- it’s a music festival with a mission. Proceeds from the festival go to the Forecastle Foundation, which supports both local and international sustainability organizations. Founded in 2002, what began as a community festival has now grown into a nationwide affair, with attendees traveling across the country to attend. But don’t let its size fool you- Forecastle actively maintains its strong hometown roots. Their Bourbon Lounge pays homage to Kentucky’s massive Bourbon industry. It includes a rarities bar where attendees can sample unique and hard to find Bourbons, and cocktails galore. Kentucky Landing houses a variety of local artisans and vendors and plenty of local food trucks where concert-goers can grab a bite.
The impressive lineup spans genres from rock to folk to R&B, with the headliners of each night being Modest Mouse, Chris Stapleton, and Arcade Fire. Other notable appearances include Father John Misty, T-Pain, The War on Drugs, Courtney Barnett, Punch Brothers, Vance Joy, and Jimmy Eat World. Between four stages and the Party Cove dance floor, you’ll have no trouble filling your day with a wide selection of fabulous acts. Local artists like DJ Alli and The Forecastle Symphony are featured in the lineup. There will also be an appearance by The Thrills- a group of favorite Louisville musicians teamed up with The Louisville Orchestra’s music director Teddy Abrams. With their proud hometown focus and a national reach, Forecastle Festival will 100% be an unforgettable weekend trip.
