We spoke with singer, Michael Mancuso about his latest music video, acapella group, and his musical inspirations. You can read our interview with him below and make sure to follow him on social media for further updates!
Hi Michael! How are you doing today?
Great, thank you!
Can you give us one fact about yourself that your fans should know about you?
I’m a huge nerd and a proud gearhead. In other words…video games and cars.
You just released a brand new music video for your single, Give It To Me. What was your favorite part of filming the video, and how long did it take to film everything?
The entire video was filmed over the course of 8 hours. It was an amazing experience! I’d say that my favorite part of filming was working with the Wilking Sisters. They both choreographed and danced in the video, and brought an amazing energy to set.
Can you give us more information about the meaning behind the song?
The song is really a lighthearted story about my success with the ladies over a 2 or 3-month span. I made the mistake of telling my good friend and co-writer/producer Dan Whittemore about my struggles in that area of my life. I didn’t think anything of it! But when we got to the point in our writing session where it was time to decide what topic we would be writing about, Dan jokingly pitched the idea that we should write about my ‘dry spell’. I laughed and ultimately agreed, thinking that I would just never release the song. But …”Give It To Me” was born and I couldn’t help but share it with the world!
You were involved in an acapella group called The SoCal VoCals at USC during your second semester of college. What was your favorite memory of collaborating with them?
I would have to say that my favorite memory was touring Hong Kong for 2 weeks with them. We performed for sold-out crowds ranging from 300 to 5,000 people. We bonded and became closer than we ever had before, and I got to galavant around the other side of the world with some of my favorite people on planet Earth. It was amazing!
What is the earliest recollection of being involved in music?
I joined a community theater group when I was in first grade. I don’t remember much, but I know I always loved the nervous energy I’d feel before running out on stage with the rest of the kids.
Where you do you get your musical inspirations from?
I would say that my musical inspirations come from my friends and the artists that are topping the pop charts. To name a few of the artists that inspire me most: Mario Jose, Malia Civetz, Nick Jonas, Justin Bieber, Zayn, Shawn Mendes.
For promoting your music, do you prefer Apple Music or Spotify?
I think that both platforms are extremely important! I would be more than honored to have a strong personal relationship with either streaming service.
What can fans expect from you in the near future?
I plan to release a few more songs before 2019 is upon us, so keep your eyes peeled for a lot more new music over the next few months! “Give It To Me” was only the beginning.
Who is one artist you would love tour or collaborate on a song with?
I would love to work with Zedd. He has been my #1 for a few years now and I’m still determined to make it happen!
