Veracious had the incredible opportunity to chat with Shim Moore which you may know him as the previous lead singer of Sick Puppies. As of now, he has two new singles which are off his upcoming solo record which will be out on September 14th. Make sure to check out Shim’s future plans and stay tuned for tour dates soon!
Hi Shim! You have a new single, Hallelujah out right now. How has the reaction been to it thus far, and can you explain to us the meaning of adding puppets to your video?
So far the reaction has been amazing. I have been very lucky that people are welcoming me back with open arms. The video happened because I just wanted to create something that was fun and not taking itself too seriously. I take my work seriously, but not myself.
You have another solo record coming out this fall. What can you tell us about it right now?
It’s the best music I’ve ever made. Period.
How long have you been working on this record, and what is the overall theme of it?
I’ve been working on it for about 3 years now and the theme is definitely the sound of someone digging themselves out of a hole. After the Sick Puppies split I didn’t have anything left so I had to remake myself and the record was written over that journey.
Is it true that you produced this entire record or did you have co-producers?
I produced a lot of it myself. A couple of songs were produced by other producers who I had worked with on Puppies stuff. The rest I either produced or co-produced.
You were the lead vocalist for the successful band Sick Puppies for a long time. Was it a huge adjustment from being with a full-time band to becoming a solo artist?
Yes. People usually start bands to AVOID responsibility. Being a solo artist is the opposite of that. I have to cover everything myself now and there is no one else to blame.
What is one goal you would like to achieve as a solo artist?
To make music that touches people more than anything else they have ever heard.
Will there be a tour following your new release, and can you tell us which areas/countries you will be hitting?
A tour of the USA will be happening ASAP. It is still in the works.
What are your thoughts on having fans stream your music on Spotify for example instead of purchasing it through Apple Music?
It is what it is. The customer is always right and as a music consumer, I love Spotify. So I can’t really complain. If your music is great it will always rise to the top eventually.
Can you list us ten songs and artists you are listening to at the moment?
Ironically. I have spent the last 2 months mixing my record so I have not been listening to ANYTHING else. But you can ask me again once I hit the road as I’m sure the band and I will be listening to a lot of great music.
You can pre-order the digital album starting August 31, and receive instant downloads of “A Brave New War” and “Hallelujah” from Apple and Amazon here.
