Elli Ingram & Tom Grennan @ O2 Academy Brixton in London, UK
Review & Photography by: Emily Freya
On Tuesday the 16th of October, at the O2 Academy Brixton in London, Tom Grennan, highlighted only by a few spotlights, burst onto an otherwise dimly-lit stage. His first song, Sweet Hallelujah, began the set with a relaxing tone, gradually gaining intensity, and with it, building excitement. By the time that Grennan had begun the second song, it felt very natural for Grennan to be running about the stage, leaving a trail of electric energy and engaging with the increasingly excited audience brilliantly. This high level of energy was a staple element for the rest of his stunning performance.
As well as the set being fueled by high amounts of energy, there was also large amounts of gratitude exuding from every element of the performance. Very early on in Grennan’s set, he gushed that he never would have thought that a boy from Bedford, a small town in the UK, would ever end up on stage at Brixton Academy, a feat that, from any background, should be very highly celebrated.
Grennan was supported by Elli Ingram and Everything Is Imagined, although I was only able to make it for Grennan and Elli Ingram’s set, the audience were already in excellent spirits when I arrived, implying that Everything Is Imagined’s set was as brilliant as the sets that followed.
Every element of the Grennan gig that evening, made it by far the best show I’ve seen this year, and one I will not be forgetting for a very long while. Keep an eye on what Tom Grennan is up to next, here – https://www.tomgrennanmusic.com/
