Minke & X Ambassadors @ The Scala in London, UK
Review & photography by Guy Hurst
To kick off their European tour dates, X Ambassadors blessed London fans by playing a sold-out gig at The Scala London, just down the road from British landmark, Kings Cross Station. For those who aren’t familiar, The Scala is a unique & intimate venue boasting an excellent viewing experience for all 1,000+ attendees due to its raised platform levels just a pinch away from the stage, to really feel immersed with the sound of the music performed right in front of your eyes.
Supporting X Ambassadors of their European shows is Minke, a London based female artist whose siren-like vocals and badass guitar solos make for an excellent opener. Playing songs as Too Late and Something Better, are the perfect introductory tracks to YouTube as a first-time listener. Next up to the headline slot were the almighty X Ambassadors, running on stage to belt out one of the singles from their upcoming album Orion, Hey Child. With such energy, sound, and smiles, it was hard to work out who was enjoying it more, the band or the audience. With those of you out there who’ve been streaming the latest X Ambassadors tracks know that they are absolute singalongs – so Hey Child was the perfect opener. As another opener to the gig as the third song in, they performed BOOM, the second single to Orion. You have never heard a track so catchy. Both singles Hey Child and BOOM are so unique in sound, with a range of different instruments, from acoustic to electric guitar, synth to sax – but all at the same time, you know it’s the X Ambassadors signature sound.
The favourite track of the evening they performed was the high-octane belter, Jungle. A track which even if you may not know the band name, you WILL have heard this track, and it’s safe to say it was performed to absolute perfection. So much dancing, movement and performance value, with constant stretching out into the crowd to help sing along were all golden moments of the evening. Seeing X Ambassadors perform live reminds you of why gigs are so special in the first place. That feeling of pure delight and happiness when you leave after the encore will be something to remember in years to come.
Their latest record Orion is set to be released on June 14 which you can pre-order here.
