Lil Skies & Lil Pump @ The Novo in Los Angeles, CA
Review & photography by Brett Prendergast
On May 22, 2019, Lil Pump and Lil Skies brought their show to the Novo in Los Angeles, California. Lil Pump and Lil Skies were the two main acts, and they had a number of openers before them including the group Run The World, Jack Bruno, Justin Roberts, and Desto Dubb. The first three openers seemed to get mixed emotions from the crowd, but they all seemed to love Desto Dubb at the end, which was fitting given that he was the last opener.
After Desto Dubb got the crowd excited, it was time for Lil Skies to perform. The DJ had all the stage lights turned off and told the audience to put up their flashlights. Lil Skies then came out with all the energy to his song “Welcome to the Rodeo.” He proceeded to perform his long list of hits including “i,” “Lust,” and “Red Roses.” Skies also brought out PnB Rock to perform PnB’s “I Like Girls,” and Wiz Khalifa also appeared to perform his track, “Fr Fr.” These special guests kept the crowd energized in what was a very good performance by Lil Skies!
Next was the 18-year-old superstar Lil Pump. Pump came out to his song with Carnage, “i Shyne” and then continued to perform hit after hit, including “Boss” and “Gucci Gang.” The mosh pits were giant, and the venue kept shaking all night long! Pump was a surprisingly good performer and even brought a giant inflatable unicorn to crowd surf on. He was very good at engaging with the audience and would even take some videos off of their phones. Pump brought out Chief Keef and even Charlie Sheen to perform “Drug Addicts.” In the middle of his performance, Pump brought a lucky fan on stage to take a Lil Pump quiz. If he [the fan] didn’t get all three questions right, he would get slime poured on him from a machine that was on stage. Unfortunately for that fan he got the last question wrong and was slimed, but he still got to turn up with Lil Pump and eventually stage dive back into the crowd.
Both artists included tributes to XXXTentacion in their performances and Pump also did a song for Nipsey Hussle. These were two of the most entertaining performers I have ever seen, and it was a very fun show and environment to be in! You can visit their websites for more information and tour dates.
