On Wednesday, July 17th, Beck and Cage the Elephant stopped by Five Point Amphitheater in Irvine, California for their co-headlining run The Night Running Tour. This was their second stop out of three in California, and the two supporting openers were Spoon and Starcrawler. It was a warm evening in Orange County as the show started as the sun slowly began to set, but it didn’t stop 13,000 people filling up the venue.
The first band to take the stage at 6 was Starcrawler. They had everyone in the seats on the lawn all the way to the furthest point in the back standing and moving. Next up was Spoon, a rock band from Austin, Texas. The band’s stage presence was unique as the lead singer had all of the crowd in his hand, following his every move and repeating after him.
After the openers had the crowd excited, the first of the headliners, Cage the Elephant, graced the stage. The crowd erupted into a loud roar as everyone stood up to get ready for the incredible set they were going to experience. The lead singer, Matt Schultz, energetically ran on stage while the crowd was screaming the words at the top of their lungs. The band’s set was something I had never seen before as Matt Schultz ran his way up the aisle to the middle of the amphitheater while their guitarist would throw his guitar back to the stage. Beck, soon came after to close out the night. He came out to his most popular track “Loser” and had the crowd engaged after that. He took that momentum and built on to it for the rest of the night.
